Local producer, MC and DJ 18andCounting has just released “There Are No Rules In Space,” a new and rugged 4 song EP. Featuring an array of industrial sampling and synthesis, the flagship production style that precedes 18aC’s music comes through unscathed on this short but sweet release, now tinted perhaps by an enticing emptiness and measure in terms of abrasion and marked stylistic departures to more canonical hip hop territory. The engineering quality is all there as well, leaving us with recordings that feel dynamic, alive and unsettlingly grim.
